“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.” -Mahatma Gandhi
I love this quote from Gandhi. And it’s one that I try to live my life by on a daily basis. But I have to admit that it’s not always easy.
People ask me on a regular basis “How is it that you’re always so positive?” Well the truth is that I’m not. Just ask my wife. I face the same trials and troubles that many of you face each day. I have the same ups and downs as many of you. My life is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. So what’s the difference?
As an adult there are a lot of responsibilities that I have that don’t bring me much joy – paying the bills, vacuuming the stairs, and mowing the grass, for example.
But of all the responsibilities I have there is one that I absolutely detest. I know that is a strong word but if you could take a peek inside of my soul you would understand the severity of the situation.
I’m no expert.
There. I said it. And a part of me feels rather free now that it’s out in the open.
But I suspect many of you already knew that. While I have a Master’s degree and a Doctorate’s degree, neither is in psychology, or human behavior, or anything even remotely close to those fields that relate to human cognitive behavior and changing your life.

If you want to be successful in life then only you can make that happen. Nobody else is going to do it for you. And you have to realize that it won’t happen overnight. You need to commit to a plan, stay focused, and take small steps each day that will lead you to your goal. Make your success happen!
When you believe in yourself there is nothing that can stop you. Stop listening to the negative voice in your help that keeps telling you that you aren’t good enough, or smart enough. You can achieve anything that you set your mind to achieve. Believe you can and you will find that you are right.
It’s natural to view your setbacks as failures. It’s almost part of human nature. But setbacks are really not failures. They are only failures if you let them stop you from moving forward. Learn from your setbacks, move forward with what you’ve learned, and achieve your dreams.
What did you dream of becoming when you were a child? Do you remember? More importantly, were there any thoughts in your head that told you “you’re not good enough?” My guess is no. As a child you believed that you could achieve anything. Where did that greatness go? It’s still inside of you. It’s just waiting for you to believe again.
There will be people, or situations, in your life that will make you feel bad about yourself. Sometimes you may even feel like you don’t matter. But that is a lie. You do matter. You are an amazing person. You are priceless. Don’t ever forget that.
Do you spend a lot of time talking about changing some aspect of your life? The important question is – how much time do you spend actually making that change? Talking about change is great but until you commit to the effort to making it a reality, the change you desire will never happen. So commit today to make that change that you’ve talked about and create the success you want.
